What is your personal inflation?

I've just got back from the weekly shopping with Christine. On the way back in the car, Christine said that she'd made it a smaller load this week, however, we'd spent £1 short of £80. Considering that last year a weekly shop came to around £60 to £65 on average, this represents an overall markup of around 50% in costs! I simiar representation of costs of groceries was detailed in The Mail on Sunday the week just gone, yet there has been no indication of any massive rise in official inflation in the press recently other that vague warnings that is a touch above the UK governments' target. HEY GUYS, THERE'S AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!
Possessing the cynical nature that I have, I suspect we are getting the usual smoke and mirrors about the reality of the situation. Lets face it, high inflation reflects badly on the sitting government as discovered in history. Has me wondering whether this is a case of burying bad news in order to hold on to power as long as possible.

Hmmmm, anyone remember that famous saying "Lies, damn lies and statistics"? Which bits are they leaving out?
