Language anomolies

"due to a "power outage"which i am told on answers is a american word for power cut."

It always amuses me at the small language differences there are between the Brits and our transatlantic cousins.
We say Hoover (brand name) - they say Vacuum Cleaner
We say path - they say Sidewalk (somehow a WWII sidewalk finder squadron
doesn't ring true )
We say Maths - Why do they only have one math????

I can't get my tongue round a 3 digit number without an "and" in the middle

Now....... rubbers and erasers ..... erm ........ ooer ...... don't think I'll even go there
I was laughing about all of this chatting with "TommysTune" on messenger the other night!!
