Up coming trip

It was about half an hour before leaving for work last week when I did my usual check of email when something caught my eye. A colleague from band forwarded me an email he received about a band from Devon looking for a trombone player to deputize for them on a trip to Germany this month. This looked really interesting, so I immediately made the phone call to inquire about it. The great news is that I'll be going to Germany for 4 days at the end of the month, to the Rhineland. I love this area having visited on a couple of school trips as a boy. To say I'm excited about this is a bit of an underestimation! We are going to play 3 concerts in Rudesheim, Bad Salzig and Lahnstein. This is going to be an opportunity to record a bit of a travelogue to share with everyone later.

It funny how little encounters affect me. Following on from my last blog, I've again realized how brittle and sensitive my self esteem can be. I had a bit of an encounter at work this week that otherwise would not worry me, but I've found it playing on my mind a little in the last couple of days. I hate those times when things just go spinning round in my mind over and over again like a scratched record. It kept me up half the night on Tuesday and although less of a bother today, it's still there..... running scenarios over and over again with no resolution. It will pass eventually, but it does have me feeling a bit fragile right now.
Still.... at least I've got some holiday and a trip to look forward to.
